I've worked in the electronics sector all my life. At 18 I joined an electronics kitting company as their first apprentice. Nine years later they acquired an electronics manufacturing services company and I made the move 'up North' - well when I say 'up North', I now drive to Leicestershire each day...
Ten years down the line I'm still here. So what's the attraction, what makes me 'tick'?
Easy, it's the variety.
Not only in the roles I have been fortunate enough to hold but also the customers and amazing projects I've been involved in. Working in electronics manufacturing is far from boring. Yes, it's a technical environment and can be a bit 'geeky' at times but it's never dull. Every day throws up new challenges and new learning and I've worked with customers across a huge range of market sectors - from military and medical through to industrial and scientific.
I've been involved in projects so secret even writing this post makes me a little nervous.
I've seen products we build make headline news for being at the forefront of technology.
I've pointed them out to my wife and kids on many occasions with pride and excitement (although they don't seem to share the same enthusiasm I have for those grey control boxes sitting inconspicuously at the side of the road).
The customers we work with keep the world moving - in some cases quite literally. Knowing you play a small part in helping them grow their business, penetrate a new market or increase market share is a great motivator for getting out of bed each day.

There are also jobs within the manufacturing sector for those from other disciplines, such as sales and business development, marketing, human resources, and many others. These positions afford all of the benefits of working in manufacturing – the pride, stability, competitive salaries, excitement, great technology and others – to people from many different backgrounds. Not every industry can boast of the same potential and flexibility.
